MUV stands for 'Multi Utility Vehicle' or what is commonly known as a Minivan. It is also known as MPV or 'Multi Purpose Vehicle'. This is a special type of van which is designed for the personal use of the owner for majorly human transportation. Minivans come in either a two-box design or a one-box design, for the maximization of the interior space.

The first minivan to be manufactured was the Stout Scarab. It was made in 1936. It had a table that could be removed when not in use. The second row of the car could also be turned around 180 degrees to face the passengers of the rear seat.

A minivan generally comes in between 1.6 to 1.8 meters in height. It is generally 20 centimeters taller than a hatchback, sedan or a station wagon. The engine of the car is located towards the front of the van, while the other elements of the car are placed at a higher position in order to minimize the length of the overhang in the front. The overhang at the rear end of the car can be short just like that of a hatchback. The cars can be distinguished by the ratio between the seat balance and the cargo space. In minivans the cargo space is much smaller while the seat arrangements are larger.

In a minivan the seats are positioned in a higher platform. This gives an upright sitting position to the passenger and in turn offers a larger legroom. Inside a minivan there are generally two or three rows of seats. Each row consists of either two seats or three seats individually. The most common minivan in the market consists of a seating arrangement for seven people. Two rows of seats are generally found in a small or mini MUV. There are generally three types of minivan:

  1. Mini MUV
  2. Compact MUV
  3. Large MUV
