Ford India is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company of United States. Ford is the sixth largest car maker in India. Ford Motor company entered the Indian automobile market way back in 1926. However, they had to close down their manufacturing facility in 1954 owing to the socialist policy of the then government. Ford later re-entered Indian market in 1995 as the Mahindra Ford India Ltd following a 50-50 joint venture with Mahindra and Mahindra. Later Ford increased its stake in Mahindra Ford and renamed the company to Ford India Private Limited. The company's manufacturing plant is located near Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu where it also houses it headquarters.
